5 Ways to Have an Even Happier New Year

Happy New Year all!!! I have the privilege of providing you all with the first TBL blog of 2018. Many of us are fully pursuing resolutions to improve ourselves and our circumstances. Listed below are a few tips to help you meet all of your goal in 2018. Let’s dive right in, shall we?

  1. Small changes yield big results

We usually start the New Year strong with lofty goals, but fizzle out before the first few months of the year. You can meet your goals this year by taking small steps towards your big goals. By conquering the little stuff first you’ll feel more confident and motivated to persue those bigger goals as the year progresses.

  1. Say “No” more frequently

Time is one of the few currencies that cannot be earned back. Once time is spent, it is gone, so use it wisely. Clients and I frequently discuss the importance of saying ‘no’ sometimes. Say no to things you don’t want to do. Say no to things that aren’t a priority. Say no to empower yourself and reclaim control over your time.

  1. Say “Yes” more frequently

I know what you’re thinking, “But you just told me to say no more often! What do you mean say ‘yes’?!?!?” Hear me out. By saying no more frequently it allots more time for you to say ‘yes’ to the things you really want to do. Again, we cannot get the time back that we spend, so why not use your time doing things you think are most important?

  1. Be kind to yourself

Keep in mind that set backs are part of life. As such, when a setback occurs, cut yourself some slack, regroup, and keep charging forward. Focus on what you are doing right. Use your strengths to compensate for or improve weaknesses. Most of all, do not beat yourself up when you fall short.

  1. Stay present

Try your best to stay in moment and truly experience whatever you’re doing. In a world where everything moves so quickly and is easily accessible, staying present can be difficult. Everyone can benefit from slowing down from time to time. By staying present we aren’t merely checking the box, but truly getting the most out of our experiences.

A Therapist’s Thoughts on Telehealth

Here we are in 2021! We made it.  As many have written before me, 2020 was a year unlike any other.   We faced a global pandemic, a divisive election, and a myriad of social issues.  While these events were beyond our control on a personal level, it forced many to reflect on themselves and subsequently seek mental health treatment.

Bring it, 2021!
Sunday, 20 December 2020

Most people are probably with me when I say, I’m looking forward to a new year! Possibly more than I ever have before. This year has been extra-challenging, to say the least. And while we still may have a ways to go before things are “normal” again, we have had time to adjust and stabilize to a certain degree over the last 10 months and things seem more hopeful with the introduction of the COVID-19 vaccine. I, for one, am optimistic that there’s a light at the end of what has seemed to be an interminably long tunnel.
