Connecting during quarantine? I know, I know, six feet right? Circumventing CDC recommendations is not what this blog is about! However, we are struggling with the inability to connect during this time.
Now, I am aware some of us have been waiting our entire lives for this moment. Getting to steal away until further notice without explanation is a dream realized for some. For the remainder of the population, though, we want to connect! Fortunately, there are ways to attain the connection we crave without potentially comprising our health or anyone else’s.
This space in time is the perfect opportunity for self-connection. The quarantine has required we move at a much slower pace than what we once did. The slower pace can be utilized for self reflection and connection. How many times have you told yourself you do not have the time or space to deal with something? Instead, you were able to power through without resolving the issue at hand. During quarantine you have the time and space to really explore and connect with yourself.
Self connection can be achieved in several different ways. It maybe that you incorporate meditation or physical activity. You could also learn or improve upon a skill like cooking, playing an instrument, etc. Now may be the time to refurbish your resume and really explore a new career path. However, you may have been pushing full steam ahead and need to use this time to rest and recharge your batteries. Whatever, it is you need in this moment, use time given during quarantine to give yourself what you need.
Again, we have an abundance of time an opportunity during quarantine. Incorporating of creative ways to connect with the people in our lives helps us feel less isolated and creates a semblance of normalcy. Have designated times to voice or video call friends and family. Reach to that person you’ve been meaning to for weeks, months, or years. Have a weekly meal and/or happy with your tribe. During these moments of connection, I challenge you to talk very little about the pandemic and focus more on other components of daily life in our new normal. It makes it difficult to be motivated to connect if the conversation is going to be dominated by dreary matters. Furthermore, as we move towards a more familiar state of being attempt to keep those connections in tact.
At The Balanced Life LLC we are virtually connecting with our clients for sessions. If you would like to schedule a session please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at (256)258-7777. Stay safe and stay well!
