While we are continuing to face challenges regarding COVID-19, there seems to be a strong desire by many to return to normalcy. This can be achieved by focusing on one’s own mental health and beginning or continuing therapy is a perfect way to do so.
So, instead of a “normal” blog this week, I have chosen to share with you an open letter to clients for encouragement and appreciation!
Dear Clients,
This is a letter to you, to each of you who have possessed the courage to begin or continue therapy amidst a global pandemic. Thank you for still choosing to prioritize your mental health during a time of crisis! There are a few things I would like for you to know, some of which may be understood within the therapy process, but need to be emphasized verbally.
You are strong.
Each time I meet with you whether through telehealth or in office you choose to better yourself and that is something to be proud of. You may be tired or weak from all that life has thrown at you, but your strength to still attend therapy is commendable. I see your bravery in opening up about personal topics and I feel privileged to know the real you. You may not realize it, but your strength is displayed in many ways and can be a building block of positive changes in your life.
You are inspiring.
I am inspired by you during every single session. Because you are the expert on yourself, I gain so much insight from you during our journey together. Learning about your strengths and weaknesses inspires me to do research on how to help you the best I can. I spend much time outside of our sessions developing myself professionally to ensure we can successfully work together to meet your goals in therapy.
You are special.
Many of you know that I utilize a self-identification activity in therapy to bring light to how unique each and every individual person is. Through exploring these likes, dislikes, values and beliefs, we discuss how your responses are very authentic to you and can’t be replicated to another person. I want to reinforce just how one of a kind you are. I feel so lucky to be able to get to know you on a personal level and appreciate the trust you place in me through our relationship.
Most of all, I want to say thank you! Thank you for choosing The Balanced Life and myself to help you on your journey. Thank you for sticking with me during such an uncertain time. Because you prioritized yourself during these challenging circumstances and sought counseling, I am confident you will see vast improvements as we all seek to find our new normal.
Sincerely,
Your Therapist
