Zakia Lott
I’m a counseling intern completing my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of West Alabama and practice under the clinical supervision of Mackenzie Boothe. My work is trauma-informed and grounded in a relational, reflective approach. I aim to create a thoughtful, grounded space where clients can explore their experiences honestly and at their own pace.
I support adults navigating identity shifts, relationship stress, and major life transitions. I’m particularly drawn to working with women and high-capacity individuals who appear steady on the outside but feel internally overwhelmed or disconnected. My clinical interests include relational trauma, separation or divorce, codependency patterns, and stress-related mood concerns.
I also support women navigating midlife transitions and medical challenges, helping them process the emotional impact of health experiences and reconnect with their bodies with greater safety, self-trust, and compassion.
My approach integrates person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and existential frameworks while drawing from feminist-informed therapy, with attention to how relational, cultural, and power dynamics shape emotional wellbeing.
Before entering counseling, I spent over two decades as a U.S. Department of Defense strategist. That background informs my systems-oriented perspective in therapy. Originally from New York City, I now live in Huntsville, Alabama.
I’m currently accepting new clients at a reduced rate. I also take Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance. Please reach out by giving me a call at 256-384-5078 or sending an email.
